Symphony of Madness
by Ray Van Horn, Jr.
Allegro Non Molto: beer can rolling in the gutter the maladroit caterwaul of a drunk paying bittersweet homage to Tony Bennett the shouting match between two cars jockeying for position in a single lane the faint hiss of sewer's seduction the glistening shrill of buses screeching into terminals Adagio: the whoomp whoomp whoomp of thundering rap bass the malicious, thoughtless throw downs between obscenity gunslingers the unbalanced paraphrasing of quickly snapped police beacons newspaper panhandlers spinning propaganda for fifty cents a pop Allegro: the crinkle of fast food bags people eating on the lam urban clergy holding mass on street corners protesting man's promiscuity on behalf of God the cacophony of wicked machinery beguiling the city in the name of progress |
